In September of 1983, GPS was made available for civilian use. Kiss made their first unmasked appearance (no make-up) on MTV. You could by a new VW Rabbit for $7.000. And the world had a scare when the Soviet Union gat a false alarm about an impending nuclear attack from the US. A Soviet officer discovered it was fake before any action was taken. On Casey’s Top 40 countdown this week in 1983, David Bowie and Spandau Ballet were 2 of the stars.

Sunday’s 70’s Countdown: SEPTEMBER 2, 1972
8 am – 11 am

In Canada in September 1972, by far the biggest story of the entire year was Canada beating the Soviet Union in Game 8 of the Summit hockey series 6-5 to win the series. Canada won 4 of the games, the Soviet Union won 3 and there was one tie game. On TV, MASH started its long run. In early September of 1972, The O’Jays and Looking Glass were both riding high on Casey’s Top 40 countdown.
