This Weekend on Casey Kasem’s Top 40 Countdown

Saturday’s 80’s Countdown: AUGUST 28, 1982
8 am – noon

There were lots of firsts in the world in 1982. Michael Jackson released his Thriller album while the first CD player hit store shelves. Time Magazine’s Man of the Year was the computer. And you could buy a computer-the Commodore Vic 20, for $300. Kelly Clarkson and Prince William were born in 1982. Casey’s Top 40 countdown this week, 39 years ago, included songs by The Human League and Soft Cell.

Sunday’s 70’s Countdown: AUGUST 25, 1979
8 am – 11 am

A couple of big movies were released back in August of 1979. Apocalypse Now, starring Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall and Martin Sheen hit the big screens, along with Monty Python’s Life of Brian. It was also the month of the first recorded case of a comet hitting the sun. The energy released from this was equal to 1 million hydrogen bombs. In the late summer of 79, Chic and The Knack were both riding high on Casey’s Top 40 countdown.
