Last night at 9:46pm Saint John Police responded to a call of a barricaded person at a residence on St. John Street West. Once there Police learned that a 58 year old man had threatened the occupants of an upstairs apartment and had barricaded himself in the downstairs of the residence. It was believed that the suspect had a handgun and the occupants of the upstairs feared that he would harm them.
Once at the scene the Saint John Police were able to cordon off the area and set up communication with the suspect. The Emergency Tactical Services Team responded to the scene. They were able to safely remove the upstairs tenant from the building . After a 5 hour standoff the suspect was taken into custody by the Emergency Tactical Services team and is currently being held in cells to appear in court today. the ETS team used a form of “Less Lethal Force, which is designed to gain compliance with a non complaint subject.”
