The Tobique First Nation in western New Brunswick have voted to accept a land claim deal with Ottawa. The vote was 864 in favour of the deal and 186 against. Wayne Nicholas, the man credited with keeping the fight over the claim alive for most of his life, died the same day as the vote from a heart condition. The 39.2-million dollar settlement is in exchange for more than four-thousand hectares of land taken by the federal government more than 100 years ago.
