Some Bathurst residents are challenging an unusual bylaw that bans trick-or-treating or wearing masks after 7 p-m. Bathurst city council passed the bylaw in 2005, but some families have requested the trick-or-treating curfew be eased and that the age of those allowed to trick or treat be raised from 14 to 16. Councillor Kim Chamberlain says some working parents feel the 7 p-m cutoff leaves them little time to get their kids out trick-or-treating but many people in the community disagree. The bylaw was enacted years ago following complaints from seniors who said older kids were coming to their doors late into the night.
