By the mid-80’s Bon Jovi was already a grizzled road warrior band. One day on the tour bus, Jon Bon Jovi, taking inspiration from Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page”, his love of the old west, and the band’s own road experiences, penned the lyrics to “Wanted Dead or Alive”. Jon and guitarist Richie Sambora finished the song in Richie’s mother’s basement. The famed opening acoustic riff was an idea that Sambora had come up with quite some time before the song was written. “Wanted Dead or Alive” was the third single from the mega-selling “Slippery When Wet”. Although it didn’t go to #1 like predecessors “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Living on a Prayer”, the song did get to #7 in 1987.
